Ferguson; secretary, Mr L. G. Fenwick. The Blueskin Agricultural and Pastoral Society held its thirty-seventh annual stock show at Waitati on' Wednesday, when there was a most satisfactory attendance of the public, and the weather remained fine; though a strong wind was blowing across the grounds during the afternoon. In point of quality of the stock the show is an advance on last year's exhibition, but, unfortunately, owing to the backward season, there has been a marked falling off in "the entries in the cattle section. Horses were about the same, .so- were also swine and - pigs as last year,., while there was an appreciable increase in the dairy produce section. There was no sheep section.- During the afternoon the Waitati Brass Band^ which plays very well for so young a combination," contributed a number ofZ selections, thereby materially adding to the- i pleasure of the gathering. i Taking altogether, there was not very j much_ in the cattle section calling for especial mention .with the exception pf the Ayrshires, which were good in every class. A very fine- Jersey bull was shown by Mr !F. E. Hellyer, and a good cow in the same section was exhibited" by Mitchell Bros. -Two good shorthorn bulls were forward, and Messrs Mitchell Bros, showed one very fine cow. In Ayrshires. the first prize in the aged bull class went to Mr P. Ireland, of Goodwood, for his splendid animal Discovery, calved on the day that the Antarctic exploring vessel Discovery left Lyttelton for the southern icefields. Discovery was by Duke of York, ,and was bred by the . exhibitor. He is a bull in superb condition, with very marked character, was first in -his class at Dunedin show, but was there beatenfor the championship by a two-year-old ; he was "champion vat Palmerston, and' was awarded the championship at Blueskin yesterday... The' champion cow also came from -Mr P. Ireland's herd— namely, Prin- . cess out of Flower, by Lord Howie, — also bred by, exhibitor. This little cow, which .was in splendid condition, was first and ~ ch_ampibn at Dunedin and Palmerston. The second gprize' aged bull was a very good animn' shown _by Mr J. Wetherstone j and! • Mrs ~K~. "B. Ferguson, a well-known "breeder at Waitati, nad a very nice two-year bull showing, and she also secured first- award in the. dry cow class. In heifers Mr J. 'Wetherstone had a fine two-year^ animal forward, but Mr P. Ireland secured 1 all the other prizes. ' ' j *In draught horses there was fairly good ! competition, and some really fine animals were shown. A good ring of four aged entires, faced the judge's, and the first award as also- -the championship, went to Mr J. ' Clark, of Waitati, for his fine stallion Clan- j burn, by "Oraigieburn out of a Glen - Lyon ; " mare. This .was Clanburn's first appearance j in the ring this year. The second award ' went to Mr W. Cowan's Clear the Way, by Royalist; and the third to Mr J. T. Brown's Lord Roberts, by Lord Lyon. In the two-year entire section the only entry was Mrs K. B. Ferguson's beautiful ' dark horse Honest Tom, by Mackenzie out of < Moss Rose. This horse was first at Blue- j skin last year as_a yearling. Mr F. Driver : showed a cry promising yearling, and! it j - was the only entry in its class. A very! fine ring of five brood mares came out, | and the quality- ail through was a credit to j - the show. The first award went to Mr F. M'Oallum's mare 5 , with Mr R. Cameron second. There were some very good rings of geldings and fillies forward, and three fin© dry mares. The championship in mares went to Mr F. M'Callum's brood mare, j There were no entries in the^thoroughbred ' entire section, and only one brood mare, ! which was a St. Clair animal shown by ; Mr G. Robertson. The only roadster entire ! was Mr J. Brown's (South Dunedin) fine black horse Ivanhoe by Wicklow (imp.) out of PocahontaS;_ Ivanhoe has been a noted prize-winner. There were splendid rings ; of 14-stone and 11-stone hacks, and the ladies' hacks shown were exceptionally fine. ' Unfortunately the judging was rather late, j and the great majority of those present j were unable to remain for the jumping, etock-riding. etc. The swin& classes produced some very fine pigs, and the 'sheep dogs maintained a good standard of quality. Every credit is due to the various officials for -the manner- in which —the show was managed, andL_the-" Secretary (Mr L. G. Fenwick) was most courteous and obliging to all who sought his services. . /The prize-list was as follows: — HORSES. Draughts. Judges: Messrs J. Patrick (Taieri), T. -Gawn (Taieri),- and- P.
