The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the TTnited Kingdom is 3.710,000 quarters, and." for the Continent 1,305,000. Atlantic shipments total 39,000 quarters, and Pacific 15,000. The tallow in stock is 6064 casks. The imports were 3477 and the deliveries 3482 ' casks. Tin.— Stocks amount to 15,398 tons; on the spot, 5086 tons; afloat, 3981 tons; while the t deliveries a-re Dut down at 2000 tons.
Wheat. — An Australian cargo Has been sold at 32s 4£d. January 4. Tin.— Spot, £132 12s 6d ; three months, £132, Copper. — ■'On trie spot, £69 ss; supplies, 31,206 tons; deliveries, 30,516 tons; stocks, 16,734 tons; advised, 2500 tons. Lead, £13. Wheat. — An Australian cargo has been sold at 32s sd. ' At the tallow sales 1546 casks were offered, and 565 sold. Mutton: Fine fetched 30s; medium, 265. Beef: Fine, 27s 3d; medium, 265. January 6.. ' The Bank of England returns show the stock of gold coin and bullion to be £29,540,000, and the reserve' £20,932,000. The percentage of reserve to liabilities is 34.94. The notes in circulation total £28,608,000 ; public deposits, £12,366,000 ; other deposits, £47,441,000; Government securities, £20,410,000; other securities, £36,420,000. Three months' bills 2% per cent. Consols, £88 18s 9d. Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with thoss ruling a week previous : —
Wheat.T— The severe weather^ has hardened fche and GontinentaL markets. The English market 1 is quiet, and cargoes are neglected ; 32s 6d is offered for •Jamiaiy-February shipments. Flour is unchanged, owing to the holi- ; day in the Glasgow markets. Butter. — Good trade in" all descriptions, •and prices 'are unchanged. Th© chief demand for secondary is about 84s. Owing to the Orizaba's shipment being late, about 110,000 "boxes will arrive during the next three days. The cheese market is firm ; Canadian, 54s to 555 ; and New Zealand, 525. Copper: Spot, £68 17s 6d ; three months, £69 ss. '• Tin .- Spot, £132 12s 6d ; three months, £132 2s 6d. Iron, 50s 7£d. Lead, £13 ss. Spelter, £25 6s 3d. Silver, 2s 3 15-16 d per oz. The sugar market is strong. First marks, 16s sd ; German, 15s. The Bradford wool market is firm and 1 unchanged. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 61,240,000 quarters. , January 8. Best advanced Id, and low-furred suckers showed from par to Jd decline. Frozen Meat.— Sheep: Canterbury, lighted; medium, 4jjd; heavy, Wd; Dunedm and Southland, none offering; North Island, 4|d. Lambs: None offering. Beef: Foies. 3d; hinds, 3gd. River Plate sheep, heavy 3 11-16 d; light, Sid. Beef: Fores, 2 11-16 d•' hinds, 3Jd. Hemp. — Quiet and unchanged.
