A visitor to Oam aru informs the Mail that the Southland oat crop will be very late this year on account of the unseasonable weather. The amount grown is comparatively small, and it is expected that the order of things will be reserved next year — Southland drawing cheap oats from the north, instead of bearing- down the market with unlimitd supplies. Shearing has been groatly hindered in parts of Southland by snow, hail, and bitter cold rain Shearers have been scarce, and a country correspondent says that "in his district only the lavgest sheds are being worked under the Arbitration Court's award. Shoarens demand £1 per 100 for flocks up to ICOO, and 16s 8d for flocks up to 5000. There lias, been the usual trouble with wet sheep, and ilia men care no more for -the award than if it were so much waste paper." The weather conditions have improved, but the wind still keep 3 from southwards) and it is cold out of the sun.
