THE BLUFF REGATTA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, January 3.
The Bluff annual regatta was held to-day, when the weather, , although favourable enough to permit of both the sailing and rowing events being got off was cold and stormy. Rain fell frequently, and the wind j was gusty. The attendance of the public was not up to the average, still 5300 | travelled by rail, and those who did brave j the elements were well satisfied with the day's outing, for this regatta is looked upon "as one of Southland's annual outings. The 1 Bailing events attracted good entries, and the harbour looked well when the races were in progress. The rowing events were confined mostly to the Riverton and Invercargill Clubs, and there will need to be more [ entries to interest the public not directly concerned in these two clubs. Still the row- | ing was very good, and the Invercargill : regatta is now being looked forward to, I when both crewe expect to be' in better fettle than now. The Warrimco was flagship. Sir J. G. Ward was present. The Bluff Band enlivened the proceedings with | good music. The arrangements were good, and the courtesy of the secretary (Mr A. | M'Lure) could not be excelled.
