MILLERS'S FLAT

January 4.— Our Christmas and 'New Year holidays are now about over. During the latter the weather for boisterous roughness will easily take the cake for a record of at least 20 years. The Miller's Flat sports took place on the Cricket Ground on Friday, 30th ult: The different events were well contested, and over £50 was divided in prize-money. The proceedings terminated by a dance in the hall, when the young people seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Pastoral. — -Shearing at Ormaglade station has been at a standstill for about 10 days- owing to the wet weather, though it only requires three days to finish the work. Agricultural/— The crops are looking well, and only wa.nt a little warm* weather to promote growth and maturity. Mining. — Dredging operations have been mostly suspended during the holidays. 'A Demented Celestial. — The residents of Miller's Flat have, for a considerable time been kept in a state of excitement by the threatening attitude of a Chinaman, Ah Jock, who has been brought before the court on several occasions lately. On one occasion he was bound over to keen the peace, but this made no difference to Ah Jock, whe was soon „ back at his old game again. It appears he has a weakness for getting enamoured with some of the' fair, sex among the residents. Some of these, for the sake of mischief, foolishly pretended to encourage his sfclvances. Finding himself foiled (or fooled) in the end, he assumed a murderous attitude, and armed with a- 'knife threatened destruction to all whom he might suspect of standing between htm and the object of Us affection. I believe he has been lodged in safe keeping, and not a. bit too soon. This should be a warning to people not to trifle too much with the feelings of the heathen Chinee.
