GORE MUSICAL COMPETITION. -
The musical competitions were continued oa -Tutsday. The vocal solos were judged by Mr E. Gr. Macpherson, of Wyndham. The following are the awards: — Pianoforte Soios. Division I, 9 to 13 years. Test piece,. " Sonata in F" (Beethoven). — May Bennett (Riversdale) 1, May Johnston (Waikaka Valley) 2, Hilda Johnston (Waikaka Valley) 3. Four entries. Division 11, 13 to 16 years. Test piece, " Rondo in F Major" (Diabelli). — Annie Bennett (Riversdale) 1, Elsie Johnston (Waikaka Valley) 2. TKree entries. Singing. Division IV. — Annie Laurie (G-ore) 1, Ralph M'Donald (Croydon Siding) 2, Annie M'Donald (Gore) 3. Division V. — Maud Macgibbon (G-ore) 1, Emma Dunn (Otama) 2, Kate M'Leod (Wai- | kaka) 3. j Duets. — Misses Archibald (Otama) 1, Misses ! Robertson and M'Leod (Waikaka) 2. i All-comers' Vocal Solo. — Miss D. Archibald ! 1, Miss M. Archibald 2, Misses Dunn, M'Leod, aocl Mr R. M'Donald (equal) 3. A pianoforte division and the impromptu speaking contests were exit out owing to lack of entries. The competitions from a musical point of view were successful, but from other points only moderately so. The judge (Mr Macpherson) said that there was, musically, a. j marked improvement on the contests of last I year, especially in the senior classes. He es- ; pec ted to see G-ore the Sallarat of W«w Zeap land in regard to these competitions.
