In the shooting match on the. 27th between In the shooting match yesterday between the Wanganui Irish Rifles and the Wellington Navals at ranges of 500 yds and 600 yds, eight men a side, the Wanganui team ecored 601 and the Wellington team 587. In the match Zealandia Rifles (Wellington) v. Wanganui Highland Rifles the former scored 563 and the latter 551. The Southern Standard obtained its results of the Cattle Flat races by using carrier pigeons lent by Mr E. A. Pigeon for the occasion. One of the birds covered the distance between th& racecourse and its loft (26 miles) in less than half an hour, and the results were published exactly an hour after the liberation of the bird
