BRUCE POULTRY SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Bruce Poultry Society was held in the Coronation Hal], Milton, on Wednesday, 14th. The icepresident (Mr R. A. Pyke) was in the chair, and there were present Messrs J. A. Duthic, J. W. Pctrie, D. Allison, T. All; chin, J. Taylor, Joseph Bremner, and G. Fisher. The annual report read as follows: — Your committee desires to congratulate th« society upon the very satisfactory state of its finances, and also upon the support accorded it during tlie past year. The show was a thorough success, there being an increase in entries, and generally a revival of interest m the society. It might be pointed cut th»fc there is a credit balance in the bank of £11 12s lid as the result cf ths past two years' wort, which, together with assets amounting to £S 2s, make the total £19 14s lid — a substantial balance on which to start operations in 1905. The novelty schemes introduced for the first time were no doubt a help to the society in the direction of making its annual exhibition ruuch more popular. There were quite a number altogether, and some did not pay for the trouble involved. The question remains whether they should not rather be curtailed than some run at a. loss. The thanks of the society go out to the ladies — Mesdames Men7ies, Bremner, Fisher, and Petrie — for their efforts in running the refreshment stall and a. side- show in connection with the exhibition which y.ur committee highly appreciated. The public and the farmers of th« district also helped materially to the success during 1901. A note of sadness tinges an otherwise happy year. The death of our energeitio and much-loved presidenl (Dr Menzies) has created a gap in the ranks of the society's workers which will not easily be filled. Your committee wishes to place on record the value of their late presid&nt's assistance to the society since his first connection with the shows. It will be noticed that the next show is fixed for Wednesday, Ju'y 26, 1905. The main items in the balance sheet were —Receipts : Entry £22 18s od, doors £19 10s 6d, members £16 19s 6d, proceeds of novelties £7 13s 3d, balance last j-ear £5 2s. The report and balance -sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Allchiri. Office-bearers were elected as follow: — Patrons— Messrs James Allen, M.H.K., W. Moore (Mayor), X Haggarc (chairman Brace County Council), William Noble ; president, Mr J. A. Duthie ; vice-presi-dents — Messrs R. A. Pyke and J. W. Petrie ; treasurer, Mr J.
