SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The - monthly meeting of the .School Commissioners .of .Otago, held on the 20th, was .attended by -Messrs' ~D . Barron (chairman), W. •Dallas, T. 'Mac' Gibbon, ;D. Borrie, and the >Sotf. A. TBaldey.. An application from Creighton Reid, .asking that the -lease, of -.sections 158 to 160, 173, and 175, -block II," Tuapeka East, be issued to Robert -M'Caw, was .granted. O. .Chittock's application for 2050 3in and 2000 "2Jin tiles for section 24, block VIII, G-lenkenich, reported favourably on by the ranger, ,was granted. A report reoeiyed from -Mr T. MacGibbon on .Mrs Lister's freehold, section 6, block XXIV, ' Invercargill, in consequence of which the valuation Jiad been raised to £230, was -adopted. The !Ranger reported recommending that section 23, block I, Invercargill Hundred, be - subdivided .into quarter-acre .sections, and a ' letter read from Messrs Bros., on behalf^ of Mrs Janet Jainieson, lessee of the section, asking that the improvements be valued now and the amount of same be paid in cash.— -Consideration was held over pending a report from Mr Mac Gibbon and the Hon. Mr Baldey. An application for permission to surrender the lease of section -22, block VIII, -Jacobs River Hundred, -was received from Thomas Stroud, together- with a report from the ranger thereon, -and it was resolved that surrender be accepted and. the 'section be reoffered at a rental of 5s per acre, per annum. The Ranger reported on W. Henderson's application for reduction of rent on sections 21 ,to 25, block IX, Wendon.— The commissioners" decided that they could not see their way to grant the request. The Clerk of the Southland County Council ■wrote stating that the council had granted the engineer's services in connection with river protective works at Wendon. — Received with, thanks. An -^application from Power and Cream, ■lessees of section '2o, WaiVio, to .be. allowed to ■surrender their lo«3e, reported upon by the ranger, -we? decli»*d. An application \tcom James Wilson to be allowed- tc surrender lease of section part 17, irregular block, "West Taieri, was referred to the ranger for report. I J. 8. Dickie, occupier of sections 57 and SI, block 11. Leaning 'Rock, wrote stating tJiafc the rent he was paying was excessive. — It was resolved to fix the rent at 20s. Transfer of lease of section 18, blook XVIII,
Gore, from B. J. Tait and E. Glover to H. Walker, was agreed to. An application from J. M'Kissock for consent to transfer lease of section 61, block VIII, Waikaia, to David M'Kenzie was agreed to. Two applications were received for the lease of sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, block XIII, town of Clyde.— lt was decided that tenders be invited for the lease of the sections in question for a term of 21 years. Eeports received from the Tanger on section 6, block IX, Waikaia ; on ditching section 77, block I, Wendon; and section 20, block VII, with reference to application for draining, were adopted. The Secretary of the West Taieri Drainage Board waited on the commissioners for the purpose of ascertaining if they would contribute a subsidy towards the proposed deviation o£ flood water at West Taieri into Lee Creek, the result of which would be that the land of • the School Commissioners would be greatly benefited. — Consideration was held over pending the receipt of information as to what the owners of adjoining properties intended to contribute.
