Minn. - Thc^initial sports meeting of the Taieri Cycling Club was held on the sports ground, Otttram, on Monday. The weather conditions .were all tha + - could -be desired, but the attendance was none too good, there being barely 500 people on \ the ground, the absence of _3ocal residents, more especially those who formerly took an interest in the Outiam Cale■donian Society, being very noticeable. Some music would certainly have enlivened the pio- . ceedings, • and as there was no refreshment ffcooth on +he ground the committee should tave endeavoured to have had a supply of pure ■water- on the ground. On the other hand, the sports were admirably managed, every event "being run off prompt to time, and the arrangements were all that could be desired in that Too "mtich praise cannot be bestowed upon Mr J. R. Wilson, who practically "ran" the meeting, . whilst •he was well supported by the prominent officials of the new club. Mr T. A. White slways m«ke3 a model secretary, and he looked .■well after his department. The racing on the whole was good, but it was very evident that Rooner or later ths track must be widened and ~+he curves altered. As it was, one rider met with a nasty a-ccident, having his shoulder 'dislocated early in the day. There were competitors from as far south as Invercargill, and two brothers from Gore carried off the honours 'of the meeting, Fleming, from Allanton, being a good third. There was unfortunately some unpleasantness in the last race, Lorimer being called off the track for blocking, and was after■ward3 disqualified by the league official.
