RACING IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, December 26.

The following are the results of the principal events at the races : — December Stakes.— North Head 1, Steel Trust 2, Binnia 3. Eight started. Betting: 6 to 4 agst North Head, 5 to 1 Steel Trust and Binnia. Won by half a length. Time, Imin ssec. Shimmer Cup. — Cato (Brennan) 1, Elvo Hux!ey) 2, Nothos (Clayton) 3. Eighteen started.. Betting: 3 to 1 sgst Cato, 5 to 1 Nothos. Overdilo made the running for the greater part of the distance. He was joined at the turn by Elvo, Tvho set out to catch Nothos. Elvo entered the straight first, with Cato and Overdale and Nothos next. At the distance Cato caught Elvo, and won by a long neck. Time, 2min 50Jsec. , MELBOURNE, December 26. There was close and oppressive weather. The principal race at Flemington resulted: — Hope--4oun Cup:— Rifler 1, Newmarket 2, Ratafia 3. Eight started. Betting: sto 2 , agst Pliable, 3 to 1 Newmarket, 20 to 1 Rifler. At the five furlong's post Rifler took charge, and was never headied, winning by half a length. Time, Imin 25sec.
