Notes from Reefton.

REEFTON, December 15.
Tne following are the returns of the Consolidated Goldfields of New Zealand for the month of Nevembex: — Gold-en Fleece mine: Jl5O tons of stone were crushed at the 20stanip mills for a return of 5120z lldwt of bullion, valued at £2092 63 3d; 11 tons of concentrates were produced and 530 tons of coarse sands cyanided, the latter yielding bullion to the value of £221 19s Bd. Wealth of Nations : Twelve tons of concentrates were produced and 710 tons of coarse sands cyanided, the latter yielding bullion to the value of £391 31s 3d. Progress Mines of New Zealand (Limited) : 5114 tons of stone were mined and transported by aerial tramway to the 65stamp mills, where 5164 tons were crushed 1 , producing 1820oz ldwt of bullion, valued at £7526 14s lOd. Ninety tons of were chlorinated, yielding- bullion to the value of £970 2s 9d. Three thousand one hundred and forty tons of tailings were cyanided, yielding bullion to the value of £826 17s 9d.
December 17.
The Big River Company's mine manager reports :— " During the week No. 8 chamber has been extended 10ft, leaving sft yet to complete. The west drive at No. 7 level has been driven Bft, and a crosscut driven in the footwall 6ft."
The Alpine Company's mine manager reports :— " No. 10 level south has been extended 17ft for the week — a total distance of 115 ft. There is a very large track, fully 9ft wide, with a considerable amount of quartz boulders of very poor quality through it. Eight feet was driven south on the track from the crosscut on 4ft 6in of stone. The quality is very poor."
December 19.
The United Gold Mines manager reports: — " During the week the level has been extended Bft, making the total distance 116 ft. The country is much harder, and vary wet." The under mine manager reports that the winze on the south outcrop is now down 30ft. The reef formation has been taken out sft from the footwall, leaving clean stone on the hanging v/all, the exact width of which has not ye* been ascertained. The stone on the hanging wall side seems to carry good gold, and the remainder of the formation is largely composed of quartz mixed with pug. The stone her© also carries gold.
