DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE
At the beginning of last week the share market gave pionnse of a welcome hardening in tone, and values generally showed a decuded improvement while uiquiiy was made for a number of stocks which had not come under notice for some time. During the last few days, however, matters became very quiet again, and there was only an occasional saie to break the monotony of the call-over. At the opening of the week, for instance, such stocks as Golden Run, Golden Treasure, Hartley and Riley, Manuherikia, and Xew Alpine Conso.s all leceived mcie 01 less good inquiry, whereas at the close most of these ttocks were altogether unnoticed. New Bendigoes and Riso and Shines were about the only stocks for which the inquiiy was maintained throughout the week. Saturday morning's market was productive of a couple of transactions in New Bendiigo shares, but outside of this matters were quiet. The investment stock market has been exceedingly quiet all the week, and this was also the case on Saturday morning. The Molyneux River was again at the Bft 3in above normal mark at Alexandra, at which level it has been since Thursday.
Alexandra Leads were firm at the previous day's rates, and Bignell's No Towns were again placed on offer at 18s 6d without drawing inquiry. Charlton Creeks had inquiry at 5s 9d, and Chicagos at 9s, but there were no sellers of either on the market. Electrics were again sought after at 28s 6d, and a seller responded at 30s. Junction Electrics were quoted at recent rates, and a parcel of Ladysmith contributing shares was sought after at 3s p., without restilt. New Bendigoes commanded very good ■buying inquiry, and two transactions were recorded in them at 7s 3d, wdth additional buyers at the close at 7s, and sellers at 7s 7Ad. New Rexburgh Jubilees were in slightly better request at 25s 6d, but holders remained firm at 275. Olrigs had inquiry at 4s, and Riiey's Beaches at ss, but there was no response from sellers of either stock. Rise and Shines were a shade firmer, buyers offering 235, and sellers asking 245. Rising Suns were a shade easier as compared with recent rates.
I The Exchange market opened very firm m tone on Monday, and the two call->Svers were productive of very fair business. The inquiry for stocks was, on the whole, very good, and in most cases values compared favourably with these ruling last week. The stock to receive best buying attention was Rise and Shine, in which two sales were brought off at good prices. I Investment stocks received better notice than was the case last week. The river showed a fall of sin on Monday morning since Saturday, the height above normal mark at Alexandra being 7ft 10in, with the weather mild. The liver was again_stcady last week, and the total of the returns to" hand for the week are slightly greater than was the case in the previous week 'JL'he Masterton dredge, at Waikaia, heads the list with V6ioz, and is followed by the Sandy Point with 66 odd ounces, this beiug thi record return from tho latter dredge. The Chicago is silso well up v.-ith 60oz. The Golden Treasure and the Golden Run, in the Miller's Flat district, bot show a falling off, but. xlis Golden .Bpt) ancij the Golden Gate, in the same district, show an improvement. The returns from the West- Coast are invariably small, but the list contains some rather good ones, notably those from tho Pactolus No. 2, ~No Town Creek, and Bignell's No Town. Bignell's' No Towns were placed on tho niarekt on Monday at 18s 6d, and drew inquiry at 17s. Chicagos were again sought after at 9s. wiihout result; Dunstan Leads were placed on cfrW at 89, without drawing inquiry; luid Electrics commanded buying notice at Saturday's price without response. Lady Roxburgh shares came under notice once more, and a parcel changed hands at 9s 6d, there being further lots' procurable at the same price, and buyers, at 8s fid. New Alpine Consols were about fiim at recenl rates, but New Bendigoes were a shade firmer, buyers offering 7s and sellers asking 1 Bs. An inquiry was, made for New Fourteen-mile Beaches at 8s 6d p., and a seller disclosed himself at 15s -6d p. New Roxburgh Jubilees were a shade easier, but Otagos, if anything, wsr-e slightly harder, buyers offering 28s and holders asking 30s 6d. Rise and Shines came in for very good buying notice, two parcels changing hands at 23s and 23s 1 3d, with additional buyers at the close at the latter price and sellers at 245.
