! Strengthen the child/'s lungs daily by practising Iceeping them full, then by emitting the breath slowly and naturally while the chest is extended. This is done by" vocalising the variou. sounds of a c i o v as long as the child can in one breath, and one sound' at a time. Make the chikß frequently read and speak after you, inflect and modulate your voice, one word 1 at a time, little sentences as "Porter — bring — me , — that — porfc — man — teau." The lungs must be kept full, and the mouth open ,as when singing. In reading aiid speaking^ emphasis should be strongly laid and extended on. tho vowels of .each word. The words must be blown out separately. Teach the child to do this by placing a little piece of paper on the back of the hand; the paper will be blown off by the child blowing out the word "porter" with a full chest. All the consonants of the alphabet, wicla vowels between, as "dad," "bid," etc., should be often repeated by the child. The child should "imitate your manner and! modu- , lation of voice, speaking slowly. Begin witb one word only between each, breath.
