TUAPEKA LICENSING COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
ROXBURGH, December 15.
The statutory quarterly meeting of th« Tuapeka Licensing Committee was called for December 7, but, as is the usual custom, was adjourned till the first court day, and the adjourned meeting was held on Thursday, when Mr Burgess, S.M., presided, and the following elective members were present: — Messrs Jeffery, Craig, M 'ln tosh, and Elder.
A transfer of the license of the- Ormond's Hotel, Roxburgh, from J. H. Martin to Andrew S. Wedderspoon, was granted. A conditional license was granted- to ' the Tuapeka Agricultural Society for its show, Sergeant Bowman objecting to the application being granted till 7 p.m., and! the committee decided to make the hours from 11 a.m. till 6.30 p.m. The paragraphs going the rounds of som© newspapers as to the cost of this meetingis not correct. Local bodies will not be called upon to pay over £20, but just a little over half that sum, and the chairman of the committee (Mr Burgess) explained that absent members would not be disqualified, so evidently the new act is not thoroughly understood by some people.
