TABLE TALK.

MONDAY, December 19. On Wednesday afternoon Mrs Lindo Ferguson gave a most enjoyable golf party at the Dunedin Golf Links. Mrs Ferguson had previously offered to give several prizes for combined foursomes, and had invited all the members of the golf links to enter, each lady member to invite j a gentleman member to be her partner. There ] were a gy«at many entries, about 60 taking part ' during the afternoon. The day proved very ! fine, contrary to the most sanguine hopes of 1 tbs morning, and a thoroughly enjoyable after- f iicon was apent by all present. The winners of the first prizes were Mrs Stanley Batchelor (who received a handsomo silver spoon) and Mr MacEwan, who was presented with 'a fiiiv*x-«iAujited walkyag-stici. The

runners-up proved to be Miss Vida Reynolds and Mr A. Hogg. Miss Vida Reynolds was piesented with a lovely little clock, and Mr Hogg with a book on golf. The hostess for the day had provided a most tempting tea in the pavilion, which was highly appreciated by the players when their play was over. Seme of the players and their partners were Mrs George M'Lean and Mr G. M'Lean, jun., Mrs Stanley Batchelor and Mr MacEwan, Mrs Allen and Mr Cripps, Miss Vida Reynolds and Mr Hogg, Miss Roberts and Mr Alec Roberts, Miss Dora Williams and Mr Mills, Miss Scott and Mr "Fenwick, Miss Denniston and Dr Stanley Batchelor, Miss Mill (Port Chalmers) and Mr Oldhara, Miss Neill and Mr F. M'Lean, Mrs Oldkam and Mr Hunter, Mrs Macdonald and Mr Macdorald, Mrs Woodhouse and Dr Scott, Miss J. Mill (Port Chalmers) and Mr Gilray, Miss Graham and Mr Kettle, Mrs W. Sargood and Mr H. Stronach, etc.

On Thursday Mrs J. Stephenson entertained somo ladier at luncheon at her residence "Ccnisborough."

On Friday evening Mrs Lindo Ferguson gave another pleasant little dance, the guests being invited- to practise the "two-step." About 30 were present, amongst whom were Dr and Mrs Lmdo Ferguson, Miss Roberts, the Misses Fels (3), Miss Cara Graham, Miss Vera Chapman, Miss Ruby Farquhar, Miss Gladys Hockcn, the Misses Mill (Port Chalmers), Miss Maud Sise, Miss G. Webster, Mr T. Webster, Mr W. D. 6tewavt. Mr Alec Roberts, Mr George Ritchie, Mr Jock Ritchie, Mr Phil Parker, Mr MacEwan, Mr Barron, Mr W. Turnbull, etc.

On Friday evening Mrs Bartleman gave a juvenile dance at her residence m Royal terrace for her daughter Allison. A number of young people were present, who all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Lieutenant-general Babington and Mrs Babington arrived on Friday from Christchurch, where they have spent the last few v. eeka, and proceed this week to Waihola, where they will stay for some time\

Mrs Babington' s sister, Mrs -Kiiox, of Sydney, accompanies Mrs Babington to Waihola. Mr and Mrs Robert Turnbull returned from Otago Central last week, and have since their return been staying with Mrs Mills at Mount Lodge.

Dr and Mrs Truby King, who have been on a visit to the Home Country, returned from Sydney on Saturday by the Warrimoo.

Mrs Wilford (Wellington) and her little boy and girl arrived by the Warrimoo on Saturday to spend the holiday season with Mrs Wilford's parents, the Hon. and Mrs George M'Lean.

Mrs Ogston and Miss Coreen Ogston left by the Tarawera for Auckland, where they will spend a few weeks.

Mr and Mrs W. Sargood returned last week frora thair driving tour through Central Ctago.

Mrs Hosking has gono north for a few weeks', ard purposes going to Wanganui.

Miss Cara Graham, who has been paying visits in the north for some months, returned Ir.st week to Dunedin.

Miss Hay, who has been visiting Mrs Sise, has returned to Timaru.

On Saturday Mrs Bridgman and her children left for Waikouaiti, where the holiday weeks will be spent.

Mr and Mrs Jim Logan and their children have gone to Temuka for some weeks, havina taken a house there for the holiday season

Corliss, of DuneHL?^ recently produced at All Saints' Schoolroom and created considerable interest, the hall being crowded on two successive evenings The Finger of Fate" is a very clever and taking piece of work, which reads well, plays well, interests players and audience alikeiienee at a first performance went without a iutcn or even a word from the prompter It wiL doubtless be heard of again, and will be fortunate- if it has the same performers— Mrs Pcnrose Boyd, Miss Montgomery, Miss Helen Longford Miss Siedeberg, Mr Aimers, and Mr J3rugn. In response to calls for "Author" Mrs Corliss showed herself for a moment before tne curtain at the close.

Miss M'Kibbon and Miss Lily Price are spending a few weeks at Stewart Island Mrs T. C. Ellis and Miss Ayton, who left on a visit to Melbourne some few months ago,

returned last week.

OAMAIMT December 17. On Tuesday a number of ladies gathered at the Waitaki Girls' School to view the display of drawings done by Miss M'CaVa pupils. The animal distribution of prizes for the two High. Schools took place in Wear "Street Hall on xhursday afternoon. It was encouraging to both teachers and pupils io see so large a. gathering. The chairman (Mr D. Borrie) was supported by the Revs. Arch. Gould, R. J Porter, N. Wright, and J. G. North, Major Kedell, and Messrs J. S. Holmes and W. H. Eose. Mr Boirie opened with a. short speech 1 , after which Miss Ferguson and Dr Don each lead the report of their respective schools, which was most satisfactory. Mr J. S. Holmes then adress-cd the pupils in a particularly good! speech, giving advice which I am sure all hoped would not fail to the ground and prove fruitless. After a few remarks from each of tha other presiding gentlemen, the gathering dispersed, many wending their way to the Girls" High School to again inspect the work done by Miss M'Caw's pupils.

Mr a,nd Mrs Pochin left on Tuesday for their new home at Pisgah Downs.

Mr and Mrs Macdonall went to Christchurck to-day to be present at the ordination of their son Mr Willoughby Macdonall, which will take place to-morrow.
