Mis 3 Jane Morgan, daughter of Randal Morgan, of Philadelphia, has obtained' a, Jieense to command her father's eteam yacht Ihe Watiirus "on all oceans." This yacht is 210 ft long, 27ft 'beam, and competent to toavigate all oceans-. There are several American western river ladies who hold jnasters' licenses for inland waters, but not taore than one or two others who have been licensed for a command on the briny deep.
Messrs Burns, Philp, and Co.'s recent pur- { phase — the steamer Induna, of 703 tone — has Arrived at Sydney. The Induna is intended t for the New Hebrides trade, running as an extra boat under the extended contract/with
the Commonwealth Government. Before ijeaving Home she -was subjected to an extensive overhaul, and various alterations and improvements were made to fit her for the island service. Messrs Ferguson Bros., of Glasgow, launched on October 10 one of the most . lowerful and 1 deepest bucket-dredges that ! iave been constructed. . The dredge - has ' »een constructed to the order of the Mersey Jocks and Harbour Board, Liverpool, and a capable of dredging 1000 tone per hour rom '56ft below the water level. Huddart, Parker, and Co.'s new steamer .SWimmera on her maiden voyage to New Zealand reached- the Bluff shortly after 5 •o'clock p.m. on Monday, and brings an {English mail. . vThe New Zealand and African Steamship Company's steamer Ayrshire, whioh sailed -on F/iday for Sydney and Fremantle, en route to South Africa and West of England ports, took the following cargo: — From -Wellington — 1800 boxes butter, 63 bales •hemp, 20 oases fish, 14 cases cheese, and quantity miscellaneous general cargo. From I.yttelton— l24s sacks oats, 80 cases poultry, cases furniture. From Port Chalmers— ♦1888 boxes/ butter, 6407 sacks oats, 3 cases vbrushes. From Auckland— 2oo boxes butter, 166 bales hemp, 37 pkgs. general car go. \-In tfoe 10 months-ending October 31 Scottish shipbuilders have, launched 264 vessels of, 355,670 -tone. The launches in October 26, and aggregated 435395 tons.
