A Settler, Mataura. — The man is not entitled to payment. Anxious. — (1) It depends on ihe nationality of the child's parents. For instance, children of natural-born British subjects, wherever born, are. by the law of England, deemed to be British subjects. (2) The birth, of any child born at sea may be registered on its arrival in the colony if the child is under the age of 18 months and the registration is effected within six months next following the day of its arrival. If the period of six months lias elapsed, the birth can only be registered after the person whose dtity it was to register the birth has been duly convicted for neglect to register. Anxious. — Where money is payable to a person employed in % factory, civil proceedings for the recovery thereof may be taken by the Inspector of Factories in the name and on behalf of the person entitled to payment by virtue of the powers conferred by subsection 5 of section 31 of "The Factories Act, 1901." Jessie. — If a man dies leaving a will but without making therein adequate provision for the proper maintenance and support of his ■widow or children, the Supreme Court may, at its discretion, on. application by or on behalf of the said widow or children, order that such provision as to the said court shall seem fit shall be made out of deceased's estate for Kich widow and children. The court may attach such conditions to the order as it shall think fit, or may refuse to make an order in favour of any person whose character or conduct is such as, in the opinion of the court, to disentitle him or her to the ■benefit of an order. Application to the court must be madie by way of originating summons, and within six months from the date of grant of probate of the will. Mineb. — Mr Davey replies: — Twenty-one-inch pipes will carry the water you want with the fall you have. You ought to have the first one or two, if not more, larger, with bellmouth opening, to take the water properly in. A. B. W.. Waipahi. — Your gooseberries are attacked by a, boxer, of which there are several sorts. The fly, or beetle, deposits its egg in the bark, where it is soon hatched out the maggot, or weevil, eats its way into the pith, on which it feeds until it is ready to emerge, when it eats a hole through, and falls to the ground, where it lies till the next season, and then, transformed into the beetle, gets on to one of the "Brandies, where you may find it at work. Your best plan is to cut back your bushes and replant in new ground, where they will coon send forth fr«sh growth. Big and lime well the old soil.— l. M. I. Boil till soft, stirring all the tame and bruising the ourrants as much as possible. Steam through a ooarse flannel- bag over JushL and do not
squeeze the bag, or it will discolour the jelly. To each pint of juice allow a pound of sugar (brewer's crystals, if obtainable), and boil for 25 minutes, unless it jellies before that time. Do not stir after it has come to the boil. (2) Red currants do not need tuny water, and do not take so long to yield up the juice; otherwise the same pro- ( cess will answer, except that only Boz sugar should be allowed to each pound of jtiice. If it jellies before the 23 minutes' boiling is ' out, pour it up or it will be tbo stiff. j Wager. — Mbs Dean was buried at Winton. j St. Bathans.— The result has not beon published yet, but will probably appear in the course of a week or two.
