THE AGENT-GENERAL'S REPORT.
WELLING-TON, December 12. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the Agent-general, dated London, 10th inst. : — " Since cabling last week no alteration has taken place in the mutton market. The lamb market is quiet. Beef ds in. better demand. The stocks of New Zealand beef on hand axe light. The average price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3Jd; forequaiteis, 2|d. The butter market is firm, with a good demand. The average price of choicest New Zealand butler to-day is 106s; Danish, 116s. The cheese market is steady; Canadian ia quoted at 495. The hemp market is quiet, but firm. Choice New Zealand hemp, of good fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day, is worth £31 10s per Jon ; January to/ March shipments, £31 10s. The price of Manila hemp, of fair current grade, on spot to-day, is £41 10s per ton. There is no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market. During the jaastj week the, wool
market lias been firm, with an upward tendency in all grades of medium and coarse crossbred. These quotations have advanced £d per lt>. The importations of River Plate mutton into the United Kingdom during- the past month (November) amounted to 268,939 carcases, of which 96,307 were landed at London, 147,964 at Liverpool, 9864 at Newcastle, 8990 at Cardiff, 3245 at Southampton, 1067 at Plymouth, and 1502 at Irish ports. The quantity of lamb was 2051 carcases, of which 290 •were landed at London and 1761 at I/iverpool. The quantity of Argentine butter landed in the United Kingdom during November was 3261cwt. landed at London and Liverpool."
