D.A.A.C. EVENING ATHLETIC MEETING.
That the popularity of the evening athletic meetings promoted by the Dunedin Amateur
Athletic Club are increasing was evidenced on Friday evening, when, despite the inclement weather, there was a large attendance at the Caledonian Ground to witness the fourth of the series. The prograninie of four events were got off well to time. The feature of the meeting was the Half-mile event, which attracted a large field, and resulted in a win for Hamann after a splendid finish. Mr J. B. Holt acted as judge of the -walking, and kept the competitors well up to the mark. The other judges were Messrs TV. M. M'Lean and V. S. Jacobs. Messrs J. B. Nelson and "W. Bennett acted as timekeepers. Mr A. Dey was clerk of the course, and Mr W. Mac Donald handicapper and starter. Results: — Half-mile Flat. Hamann, 25yds .. .. .. .. 1 Christie, 25yds .. .. .. .. .. 2 Lambie, 30yds .. .. 3 Also started : Hoare 10yds, Melville 10yds, D. Melville 15yds, Paterson 20yds, M'Curdy 20yds, M'Corkindale, Stephens, Clarke, and Thompson 25yds, Titchener, Taylor, Bragg, Smith, and Rudkin SOyds, Brown and Prideaux 35yds, and Dowland 40yds. The field started off at a. great pace. Brown, running strongly, took 'tUe lead, which he maintained into the straight. Passing the stand Hamann and Christie went to the front. Going round the back Hamann passed Christie and led to the ta.pe, winning by a couple of yards from Christie, with Liambie a fair third. Time, 2min lasec.
Oxe-mile "Walk. Brovro, 15yds . . 1 Also started: Parsons scratch, Morrison 60yds, Owen SOyds. Owen went off at a great pace, and maintained his lead until the last lap, when, after being -warned, was disqualified. Parsons then took up the lead, but was also disqualified. This left the race to Brown and Morrison. The former, who walked well, won by the length of the straight. Morrison did not finish. Time, 7min 37sec. 120 Yards Hurdles. First heat: M'Namee, scratch, 1; O'Kane, owes 16yds, 2. Also started: M'Farlane 7yds behind. Time, 20 4-ssec. Second heat: M'Lennan, owes 4yds, 1; PaJnier, owes lOvds, 2. Time, 21 2-sseo. Final, M'Namee, scratch .. .* ... «. 1 M'Lennora, owes 4ydsi .. .. .. .. 2 These were the only starters. The two men ran well together, taking the last hurdle in company, -when M'Jfaniee won on the sprint to the tape by two yards. Time, 20sec. Long Jump (fo* Civil Service Club). Titchener (lft), 17ft 4iin 1 M'Namee (lft), 16ft 2in .., .. .. 2 M'Corkindale (lft), 16ft 3 Also competed : Prideaux lft, Clancy 6in, Parata. scratch. Titchener jumped well, and won by more than his hfuidican.
