SPEED OF MOTOR CARS.
AUCKLAND, December 8. The speed of a- motor car,, according to Mr Kirkbride, M.H.R., is an element of danger, 'fraught with serious possibilities, to residents in the country. Speaking on the subject of the regulation of traffic at the Local Bodies' Con'f&renoe, Mr Kirk-bride said ie thought th,e speed of motor cars required attention. These cars, he declared, ■weie in the habit of flying aiong the country roads a* a .rate of 25 or "30 miles an. hour, and as many -of the horses were nor. used to this sort of thing serious acci- . dents might happen if some steps were not taken by Road Boards to 'restrict the speed af . cars. The chairman of the conference - said tlat the Marigene Read Board had already taken the' matter in hand by framing by-laws to regulate motor oar traffic. It "was decided to ask all Road Boards hi the country to make similar provision wiien dealing wdth the regulation of traffic generally.
