DUNEDIN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT.
Messrs A. Moritzson and Co., auctioneers, wool, stock, station, gram, produce, and commission agents, report (wholesale) for the week as under. All quotations are subject to market fluctuations. We would ask farmers when sending samples always to put a price on theni, as buyers do not fee! inclined to make offers: —
Wheat. — Millers are not operating, and prices are weak. We quote: Prime velvet and Tuscan, 3s 8d to 3s 9d; red chaff, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; fowl wheat is weak at 3s, 33 Id. Oats. — Strong inquiry for A grade for expoit; inferior neglected; prices unaltered. liyecojn, 3s to ds
Barley. — Prime malting, fair demand at 3s to 3s 3d ; milling, 2s 3d ; feedt, 2s. Chaff. — Prime oaten sheaf chaff, £3 to £3 7s Gd ; medium to good, £2 10s to £3 15s; prime quality, £2 7s 6d to £2 12s 6d ; medium and inferior unsaleable. Straw, 25s to 30s; prime clover hay, £2 10s, £2 15s.
Ryegrass. — Fair demand. We have sold at 3 Farmers' dressed, 2s to 2s 6d; machined, 3s 6d to ds Cocksfoot. — Owing to small crop and high prices in London, this seed is considerably firmer. We have sold farmers' lines from 3\d to 4|d ; machined seed, sid to 6d.
Linseed. — From £8 to £10 per ton, as per quality.
Chewings's Fescue. — No demand at present owing to large stocks of last season's. We anticipate low prices for new seed. Potatoes. — Market bare o! old sort 3. Piim»
Derwents, £4;. new kidneys, up to 2id; round eortc, up to 14s per cwt.
Wool. — The season has now started, and there is every prospect of prices being much higher than heretofore. All consignments, whether large or small, have our careful attention.
Rabbitskins. — Suckers and runners, 4^d to €ld; outgoing 12Jd to 13id; late autumns, 12id to 13 £ d; autumn blacks, Uld to Is; ■winters, 15d to 17d ; winter blacks, up to 22d. Sheepskins. — We hold sales every Tuesday. The demand is very keen for all classes, and extreme prices are being paid. Crossbred *nd half bred sound pelts, 6s 6d to 9s; crossbreds extra good, up to 10s; medium, 5s to Is 9d to 2s; small, Is to Is 6d; lambs, 4s to Cs ; small, 2s 6d to 3s. Top prices guaranteed. Hides. — We quote: Prime ox, 52d to 6d; medium, 4§d to sid; light, 45d to 4|d; heavy cow, up to 4gd ; light, 4id to 4gd. Horsehair, 13 IA to 15d; bale lots, 15d. Our next sale takes place on the Bth. Country sales conducted on most leasonable terms. We can supply rabbit and sheep netting, oil cake; farmers' Fairbanks 4001b scales, £5 10s; Crown sheep dip — casks 3s per gallon, drums 3s 6d; Berger's red and black sheepbranding oil, 43 per gallon; Gibson's cattle brand, 9s for small, and 15s for large tins; ITewton's patent wool presses, £13 each ; clover, xape, and turnip seeds, all freshly landed. Prices on application. Stack covers, 18 x 16, 40s each. Grass Seed, Cleaning. — Our machinery is up to date. We hare just added a clover polisher, «nd as we havt a. machine of the latest type for each kind of seed, we give from 5 per cent, to 10 per cent, better cleaning results than a machine which cleans ali seeds. We also store seed free .of charge until cleaned, and keep same insured. Storing Grain. — We are prepared to store, re■eeive, and deliver, insure, with tliree months' free storage, at 3d per sack. Our stores are vermin proof and connected, with siding. FRTTIT AND PBODTCE REPORT Butter.— Prime salt, 6d, 8d; off, 6d to 7d; separator in lib pats, Bd, 9d ; storekeepers' lots, 4Jd, 5Jd (in full supply). We should advise storekeepers to salt down. Eggs.— Fresh. 9£d. * Cheese —Factory, 4|d to s*d; loaf, 5Jd to Sid; dairy, 4sd to sa. Honey.— Demand is not very strong-. Prices are ruling' from 3Jd to 4d for good quality. •Section honey in demand, 8s per dozen pound sections. Beeswax is 4d. v/anted. Onions. — Prime, £9 10s, just landed. Walnuts, 4id to s£d, wanted. Bacon. — Boils, Bd. Hams, 8d to Ssd. Pigs. — For sizes up to 1601b, first-class dairyfed quality, from id. Butter boxes, with parchment linings, -we «an supply at 18s per dozen. Vickery's egg preservative, 20s per case of 8 gallons. Poultry. — Local prices are higher than export. Hens, 3s to 3s 6d; ducks, 4s 6d, ss; roosters, 3s 6d, 4s 6d; geese, ss, 5s 6d; turkey liens 5d per lb, cocks 7d per lb (live weight). Fruit. — We receive consignments by every steamer from Australia, the Islands, and our own colony, and hold sales daily on arrival of consignments. Sacks. — .We can quote 44in corn sacks, 6s 3d ; eecond-kand grain sacks, 4s 9d; good flour •acks, 4s 6d doz. There is a considerable saving in taking these to the farmer. Ovo gold medal egg preservative, part, on application.
