Askbur-ton grain markets, for the week ended Friday last: — Wheat; There has been an entire absence of business in the wheat market, and the week closes with a depressed feeling. Quotations given are nominal, and buyers- are disinclined to buy at these rates other than for small' lotsr for immediate- delivery. Tuscan and pearl 3s sd, Hunters 3s 3d.- Oats: Several lines of good, short oats have been disposed of during the last few days for shipment, and this has had the effect of, again clearing the market of offerings. Prices are, if anything, slightly easier, end yesterday it would be difficult to place any quantity. Values axe — Canadians Is -6d, short feed oat&-ls sd, I^anish Is 4d. Oat-, sheaf chaff: There, hae^been no alteration in the market, and very little is now offering, but at the same time the demand is. limited, 57s 6d being the outside price for prime quality. . Timaru grain markets (Post, 3id inst.): — A little business has been done during the weeky though ther demand generally is' dull, and prices are 'not at th& same high level as was the case a few weeks ago., A few sales have been, made during the week at 3s 6d and 3s 6£d for velvet, and up to 3s Bd"was paid for ran extra prime line of Tuscan. These sales were made in fulfilment of orders from Auckland, and so far as we can learn there are no orders being received from any place but Auck- , land, hence the limited business.' Fowl wheat maintaijis a good price, xip "to. 3s 2d f.0.b.. being paid for it. It is not, however, so much sought after now, owing to the fact that in the j north, maize is being used to some extent in its stead. Very few orders for oats are being placed here now, and the only indication that j can be given of vaJues is the fact that during ! the past few- days dmis have been sold at Is I lid f.0.b., s.i. Derwent potatoes are still selling badly, and in anything like large lots are quite unsaleable. Notwithstanding this, however, the tuber has been again grown exten- ; sively in the district. Floiir is selling at £9 10s, pollard at £4, bran at JE3, and oatmeal at £& 10s-, per ton in each case, these being the prices ruling as between merchant and retailer. Christchurch skin sales: — At the sales on Thursday last th« market was very firm, and I the range of prices was: — Butchers' best green J crossbreds 7s to 7s 9d, medium to good 6s to i 6s 9d', best haJfbreds 7s to 7s lOd, medium to ! good 5s 9d to 6s 9d, butchers' green pelts Is to Is 6d, country pelts Sd to Is, lamb's' skins Is 3d to 2s, a few extra- to 2s 6d, inferior 8d to Is. Ashbxirton skin and wool sales : — At the sales on Monday, 28th tilt., there was a. good attendance, and competition was much keener than has previously been the case this year. An improvement was noticeable in the price of all classes of skins, well cared for.
