DIRECT TRADE WITH MANCHESTER.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, December 1. The chief traffic superintendent of ths Manchester Ship Canal Company, writing to Mr C. Onyon, of this city, says that in>

The "Suffolk went to Manchester to loa,d oultw/ard oargo for New Zealand and Aiustralian -ports, fad on the date of writing (October 27) "the Indralema and Somerset' were to follow suit. The letter goes' on:— ""We understand from the Federal line that, now the steamers are equipped to " pafis under the" fixed bridges on the' canal,' they are prepared to accept I ( homeward cargo tor ' Manchester." We hear \ ' that the Christchurch Moat Cojnpany -has , made some contracts" ""for Manchester de- ' livery, all of which seems to be very hope- S ful, and I feel sure thai once a practical j start has been made in loading homewards ■for Manchester, a regular trade will be j maintained, to the benefit of the colonies , and other interested parties." j
