BOWL-TESTING MACHINES

Quite a large gathering of bowlers were present on the Dunedin Crab's green on Friday afternoon to witness a test of the various machines invented locally for the purpose of bowl-testing. Amongst those assembled were representatives from Kaituna, Roslyn Caledfonian, Taieri, St. Clair, Green Island, Ihinedin and Invercargill Bowling Clubs. The weather was beautifully fine, and the green in good order for the test. The bowls used had been previously tested by Messrs Alcock, of Wellington. The test was under the supervision of the local committee — Messrs Greenslade (Caledonian), Reid (Kaituna). Miller (Dunedin), Wilson (Eoslyn), M'Kay (St. Clair), and Wheeler (secretary of the association). Messrs Dall (St. Clair) and Young (Dunedin) 1 , who recently saw Alcock and Co.'s test inf Wellington, were associated with the committee. Five macliiues were tried — Messrs Mark Sinclair's. W. A. Soott's, Cowie andl Tor-, lance's, Gilmour's, and Dr de Lautour's and! all appeared to be more or less suited for the* purpose fo_- which they were devised.
