RAGING IN NEW ZEALAND.

TAHUNA PARK TROTTING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. The Tafcuna Park Trotting Club concluded ■ its spring meeting yesterday in fine weather, and" there was ft -fairly large attendance present The track waa in good order, and on the whole the sport was of a more interesting character than that which was witnessed on the first day. Jack's victory in the Advance Handicap was principally due to Pringle's horsemanship. John Gilpin appeared to possess p, good winning chance in the early part of the Pony Race, but tired badly in,the last half mile. Kohuru's win in the PubCican's Handicap was a, very lucky on«, as Victory had him beaten wh"en he broke I -within a few "strides of the post. E. M'Kewen 1 rode a good race on the winner, and had to keep his mount very busy to land the race. The judge's verdict in the Bracelet created a bit of- astonishment amongst the spectators, 1 the majority of whom appeared to believe that . Ravensdale was first past the post. The official decision was a short nose in favour of Alamra, but Ravensdale appeared to get in front when the fc-rm'sr broke within a couple of strides of the post. A good race waa witnessed- in the James Memorial, and Queen V. maintained a level gait throughout, and was capably handled by M. Allan. The stewards held an inquiry into Bill's running, as that horse was alleged to have left the track, when he went . up on the inside of Viokery, but decided not to disturb the official platings. , The entire field in the Wa-verley Handicap showed broken gaits, and General H. had his chance made easy byßeprieve breaking when a furlong from home. Stewardess won the St. Kilda Handicap from end to end, and Miss Burlington had no difficulty in annexing the Electric. The amount .put through the totalisator was a considerable advance on -that on the second day of last year's spring meeting. On that occasion the total was £1285 10s, while yesterday it ■was £1637 10s, the increase being £352. The total for the two days last' year was £2730, ' as against £3437 for the two days this year — a difference of £707.
