Wednesday, November 30, 1904. Fat Cattle. — There were yarded for sale 148 head, consisting mainly of medium bullocks, hardly a pen of prime cattle being forward. For -the few finished cattle submitted there was fair competition, but generally speaking it was a dragging sale, and prices suffered to the extent of about 10s per head. Best bullocks brought from £10 10s to £11 10s; medium, £9 5s to £10 7s 6d; light, £7 17s 6d to £9; best cows and heifers, £6 17s 6d to £8 2s 6d; medium, £5 10s to £6 10s; light, £4 5s to £5 ss. Fat Sheep.— l4l6 penned. This entry was comprised of as mixed classes as could possibly have been biought together, all descriptions being forward in fair numbers. The market fluctuated to a remarkable extent, but, taken as a whole, prices were rather better than at last Wednesday's sale, although no quotable change can bo recorded. Sheepskins. — LargA catalogues are being offered, and extreme rates ate still the order of the aay. Best shipping lines elicit the keenest bidding. Hides. — No sale since last Teport. Fat and Tallow. — Moderate supplies coma forward, and meet with fair demand. Quotations: Best tallow, 16s to 17s ; fair to medium, 14s to 15s 6d ; rough fat, 13s to 14s 6d. Grain. — Wheat : As all the millers are well supplied at the present time there is practically no business passing in milling quality. A few odd lots for mixing purposes are occasionally purchased, but otitside of this the market is quite lifeless. Fowl wheat is offering very freely, but all parcels are being taken up at full market rates. Quotations : Prime milling (nominally), 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; medium, 3s 2d' to 33 sd ; best whole fowl wheat, 3s and 3s Id for small parcels; broken and damaged, 2s 6d to 2s lOd pea- bushel (sacks extra). Oats: During the past week there has been % good inquiry for all classes of oats, and anything offered ait market rates has been readily taken up. Stocks in Dunedin are very light, and most of the grain has been drawn from Southland. Quotations: Prime milling, Is 6d to 13 7d ; good to bast feed, Is 5d to Is s£d ; inferior to medium, Is 3d to Is 4d per bushel (sacks extra). Barley: There is some inquiry for prime malting quality, but buyers are very particular about the grain they purchase, and as very few lots of really good barley are now available there is not much business to report Medium grain is practically unsaleable, although there is a. considerable quantity of this on the market. Feed and milling descriptions find fair gale at current rates. Quotations: Prime malting, 3s 2d to 3s 4d; milling, 2s; feed, Is 9d to Is lOd per bushel (sacks extra). 'Chaff. — Consignments have been on a moderat© scale during the past week, and all chaff of good quality has been quitted readily at late rates. None of the offerings can be described &s extra prime and bright, and for this description an extra 2s 6d to 5s oould be obtained. Medium and discoloured samples move off rather slowly, and for inferior there is no demand whatever. .Quotations are : Prime bright heavy oaten sheaf, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d; good to best, £3 5s to,£3 10s; medium to good, 4>3 to £3 ss; light and discoloured, from £2 5a upwards per ton (ex truck Dunedin, sacks extra or returnable). Potatoes. — As a result oi the late higher values these have arrived more freely, and prices have declined again, although not nearly to their former level. Best Derwents, freshly picked, are in good demand, but other -sorts are difficult to place. Quotations: Prime Derwents, in good order, £2 5s to £2 10s ; medium to good, £2 to £2 5s per ton (ex truck Dunedin, sacks in). Straw : — Supply about equal to demand, and very little change in value. Quotations: Best oaten, 32s 6d; best wheaten, 30s per ton (ex truck Dunedin, pressed).
