December 3. — The weather has improved at last, and much it -was needed. "Work on the farm is very Gs-ckward. crops far behind, and grass very scarce. However, a few weeks like the lats one will soon make matters xig-nt again. Tlie farmers are busy sowing and preparing the land for turnips and grass. The low price of oats is .forcing them to turn their attention more to- the rearing and fattening- of stock. Dairying. — There is mtieh talk of starting a dairy factory m this centre. It is claimed by those in, favour of the movement v that now the Wa.ntwood estate has been cut up into small blocks a factory would receive sufficient support to enable it to psy a handsome proj fit. and enhance the value of property all over. Cricket. — The members of the local cricket oiub are to bs seen practising until dark ©very
night. They can pick a very strong team, and •with a little more practice will give the neighbouring centre a tough tinie to come out on top. Ball.— The Cricket Club held a ball in the hall on the 25th ult., which proved a success in every -way. The drag from Gore brought a big crowd, and a, large number came from Riversdale, Otama, and Waikaka. Music was supplied by Miss Crombie (piano), and Messrs T. Gren aned R. Crombie (violins). Dancing was kept up until daylight. The M.C.'s were Messrs H. Jones and S. Horrell.
