FIRST GRADE. Albion v. Opoho

- The match Aibion v. Opoho was begun on the hill ground on Saturday. The rain be-fore commencement of play rendered the ball a "little greasy. The batting qualities of th© hill men were sadly wanting, and the men who should have made runs did nothing, as the score shows, and six wickets were down for 31 runs. The tail end came to their assistance, and by their aid the total reached a higher figure than at one time seemed likely. Their fielding also might be improved, several easy catches being missed. On the Albion side, Dyson, who hails from Lancashire, made his debut in Senior cricket here, and by his display showed that he has had careful coaching, and if he gets into form should be a thorn in the side of some of Dunedin's bowlers. His display on Saturday was masterly, his hitting all round the- wicket being much admired. Cummings also batted in his best style, and the Opoho score was passed without the loss of a wicket. A separation was effected by a smart oatch at point by Kenny. The following are the details : — ■ Opoh.o.— First Innings. Kenny, b Corbett O Eckhoff, o Cramond, b Spence __ . . 13 Kilgour, cG. GEANGE. The match Dunedin v. Grange was commenced on the Carisbrocik Ground on Saturday befoie a fair number of spectators. The weather was anything but oricketlike, and th© fieldsmen had an unpleasant time of it. Grange, winning the toss, elected to bat, and the start they mad© did not augur well for a long scpre, as four wickets fell for 24, out of which Patterson had shaped well for 16. An adjournment was made at this stage for the rain. When play was resumed Downes and Henderson were associated, and an invaluable stand was made — Dpwnes playing one of his very beat innings, laying on the wood to anything loose, and being content to play the good cues that oavn<3 along. At 14-3 Donvres's innings was brought- to a close by Graham takinig a. good catch off Shacklock in the long field. • The retiring batsman had contributed 91 by almost faultless battang, only on© chance, and that a rather difficult one, being down against him. His strokes all round the wicket were hard and clean, and he gave a display that pleased the" spectators who braved^ the elements and wended their way to the Caledonian Ground. H© received hearty applause on retiring 1 , and hadi hard luck in not reaching the coveted century. The following ane the detailed scores : — Gkange.— First Innings.
