BAREWOOD
I August 4. — We have had a very mild winterso nruoh so that there has been a scarcity of water, and the mine worked one shift instead of three, as at present. On Sunday afternoon, at about 3 p.m., we had sleet showers, and it has continued snowing, off and on, since. The snow is a foot deep m places.
Amusements.-— The residents are ve-iy energetic in the way of providing armisiinents. There are 21 employees, including married and single, in the mine, and within 12 month? they have 'built a r.ice hall and paid for i<-. They have now arranged for a fancy dicss ball to take place on or abotit the 26th iust. the proceeds to be devoted to lining the hall. The committee have also other amusements under way, such as quoits, ping-pong, and so on. The menfolk here provide the fair s?x with all ihe amusement they can in order to ; relieve the monotony of country life.
