TEMPERANCE CONTENTION. INVERCARGILL August 3.
The Temperance Convention opened at' Invercargill to-day, and was attended by delegates from ail parts of Southland. The principal subjects of discussion were the effect ,of the proposed legislation on tho no-license movement and the plan of cam* paign for next election.
It was resolved to formulate a plan o£ campaign for the electorates, to include — • "(1) Talcing steps to provide a fighting fund; (2) engagement of an organising agent ; (3) placing electors on the rolls ; (4) arranging: for lecturers ; (5) systematic distribution o£ literature ; (6) systematic house-to-house visitation. Another resolution condemned! the elimination of the reduction vote from the act and th 6 incorporation of clause $. A. motion was passed expressing satisfaction with the capable, fearless manner of Policeinspector Mitchell and Detective M'llveney in " discharging their, duties in enforcing the law against wrongdoers and those committing breaches of the licensing law.
