A SINGULAR PHENOMENON.
IXVERCARGILL, July 15
A Glenorchy (Wakatipu) correspondent, writing to the Southland Times, i^ays that Messrs Leary amd D. Anderson, exploring near Mai tin's Bay, report a singular discovery at the head of Kaiapoi River. Ascending a bush-clad hill, they oa>me to a soft, eugarylike substance oozing out of the ground, and slowly burying the bu=h near the top. They passed tihroug'h a great gap and found within it a basin studded all o\ er w ith various-sized cones anel domes, diversified mi colour, shape, and beauty. Many little streams issue fiom among the domes and find their way through the gaps in the outer wall down the hillside. Some of them rum milk-white, others brown, red, black, and other hues.
