This is no doubt the result of the small returns announced from those dre*lge3 which are looked to to swell the weekly yield of gold. Ihe only bright feature of an otherwise dull market was the excellent demand, with a corresponding rise in values, fcr Hartley £>nd Riley shpres. New Fourteen-mile Beaches commanded moderate attention on a shghtly firmer market, but there , vis no change worthy of note in Electrics. The Molyneux River, which has remained stationary for almost the whole of last week, showed a rise of Ift; on Saturday, the height being 6it 3iu above the normal mark at Alex- ! andra. j Electrics had inquiry t>t the pievious day's latest rates, but sellers were a shade firmer. • First Gkance.% were again placed on offer at ' 18s, without disclosing any buyers. Values iv Hartley and Rileys took a rather sudden rise, buyers being prepared to give <is high ss 635, as against 54s the previous day The inquiry 1 for these shares was very strong, and by the time that buyers had fulfilled their requirements values were at a level of about two weeks ago. Altogether five transactions were recorded, the prices being 60s, 61s, 633 (two sales;, and 63s 6d. At the close further buyers were m j evidence at 635, but sellers were asking 645, and, buyers not being prepared to gne that j price, no further business resulted. Holders of Hartley and Rileys were again asking 6£s, but buj'ers were only prex^ared to give 595, as j gainst 63s on Saturday. Inquiry was made ior Nelson Creeks at 35s 9d, bu+ sellers held , for 36s 6d, and no business lesiilted. New Bendigoes were firm, and No Town Creeks were placed on the market at a shade lower price j than that asked on Saturday, but there was no i response from buyers. Ne.v Foui teen-mile : Beaches opened on a much easier market, a single parcel being taken up at the morning 1 sitting at 27s 6d p., and more were procurable at a similar puce, but buyers' best offer was 27s p. At the afternoon silting, however, 1 holdeis were asking 30s p., but there was no i espouse whatever from buyer*. Riley's Beaches were m demand at 8s ad, but sellers Leld for 10s, a slightly better price than that asked last week. Rise and Shines were placed | on offer at 23s Gel without disclosing any | buyers, and improved inquiry was made for j Sandy Points, but the price asked by sellers wss too high to allow of any business resulting.
