PENINSULA ROAD BOARD.
DISPUTE REGARDING TENDERS. The regular meeting of the Peninsu'a Road Board, held on Saturday, was attended by Messrs M'Curdy (chairman), Reekie, "Walker, Fairbairn, Cowen, and Black.
Messrs Kenyon and Ho3kiug3 and Mr Nicho'as wrote objecting to the water being conveyed) from, the present course, into Mr Sumervill's property. — The letters were received. Messrs Smith, MacGregor, and Sinclair wroia asking if funds had been spent on the road at Waverley. — The clerk was authorised to reply. The Chief Surveyor- wrote le the exchange of roadline at Sandymount. Mr T. Begg was present to show a tracing by the board's engineer and the line of the proposed 9in drain in Bayfield Estate, Anderson's Bay. The total length of the drain ia 23 chains. The price per chain should not exceed £4 15s. This includes wells and gratingto catch surfpee drainage.— lt was moved by, Mr Fairb.iirn, and seconded by Mr Walker— '" That the board's engineer be authorised^to invite tenders and proceed with the work." — The Chairman asked if thnt rneo-nt that the engineer was to accept tenders for the work. If sa, he would not put the motion, on the' ground that he would not allow anyone not being a member of the board to accept tenders. Three members immediately left the room, and" another followed soon after, and no further busine33 was transacted .
Speaking at the Otepopo on Monday, 23th, IMr T. Mackenzie, M.H.R.. animadverted very strongly on the way parliamentary business was conducted. He said that the early part of the session was frittered away, and that the policy bills and importam measures were pubhed through during the dying hours of the sesion, whe« members w-.-re so fagged that they could not give the measures the necessary consideration.
