Views of the Chinese Camp, Lawrence.
In the flourishing days of the Go'dfields the Chinese Camp was the centre of many stirring scenes, and was a veritable hive of Chinese diggers, merchants, etc. A destructive fire, howeveT, a few years ago, demolished the greater part of this historical camp. With the exception of the Chinese Empire Hotel, which is of brick, the majority of the other buildings shew evident traces of dec; y.
" Old Mousey " is a very old resident of Tuapeka, and is well-known to travellers and residents of the Goldfields.
This old Chinese firewood vendor is about 60 years of age, and is wellknown to the residents of Wethersto les. Although an old man, he is able to carry easily this heavy load of manuka, fully 2001b in weight.
