Those that were present were intent on business, and as there were also a few buyers from Milton, Taieri, Peninsula, and Palmerston present, the sale turned out to be a most satisfactory one. The sheep consisted principally of breeding ewes, mostly young, which met with a splendid sale, while the few lines of lambs offered sold at splendid values, fully Is per head above that ruling at last sale. Cattle did not meet with much inquiry, excepting fats, of which very few were forward. Their sales were as follows: For Mrs J. R. Renton, J. B. M'Neill, C. Dallas (Balclutha), D. Murray, W. The same firm also report having held a special sale of sheep at the Corporation Yards, Balclutha, on Tuesday, 22nd inst., when they yarded^ 4750 sheep. " The attendance was by no means *aige, and the entry proved more than sufficient to satisfy requirements. Notwithstanding, the sales that were made were quite on a par with ruling rates, more especially for young ewes, which brought the highest prices of the season. Their sales were as f ollow : 160 four-tooth halfbred ewes, 18s 6d ; 1180 four-tooth thiee-quarter-bred ewes, 18s Gd ; 170 two, four, six, and eighttooth crossbred ewes, 17s ; 80 two-tooth ewes, 16s 8d; 30 ewes (broken) and lambs, 9s 9d; 63 four-tooth wethers, 17s 6d ; 120 four and eixtooth wethers, 17s; 354 do do, 15s 9d ; The same firm also report having held thenmonthly sale at Waikouaiti on Thursday, the 18th inst. There was only a small yarding of cattle, about 65 head in all coming forward, made up mostly of forward steers, fat cows, and heifers and calves. The demand throughout the sale was brisk, and all the entry changed hands at satisfactory prices, the only exception being some cows, which had a very limited demand, and were dull of sale. Our sales were on account of Messis W. Graham, Mrs A. Thompson, Messrs Thomas Smith. John Neiper, A. Bray, J. A. Townsend, T. C ; ark, A. There was not a large turnout of buyers at the sale, but •most o£ thos« present came prepared to do business, and, although, bidding was not very brisk, practically the whole entry changed hands at prices which must be considered iairly satisfactory. Our sales -.vere 895 full-mouthed merino ewes at 12s; 350 full-mouthed crossbred ewes at 15s 6d; 221 fullmouthed crossbred ewes at 14s 9d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Clinton on Thursday last, 17th inst., when they offered abvit 3000 sheep to ths usual representative gathering of farmers. There -were also buyers present from both north and south. The local demand, however, was so keen that the latter could not compete. Ewes were particularly brisk of sale, making up to 19s for four and six-tooth, the latter being obtained for a line of Mr James Taylor's. There was also keen competition for all lines of good wethei's and lambs.
