The other appeal was one from the decision of the same warden in tife case of John Hore v. Hore's claim had been surveyed and marked off by a surveyor, but tho Chinamen's claims were indefinitely described. Some months ago the Chinamen commenced working portion of the ground held under Hore's license, and, on being remonstrated with, declined to desist, alleging that Hore had included portion of their claim in hiE. Hore sued in the "Warden's Court for damage and an injunction to restrain further operations. Nominal damages were recovered and an injunction granted. In their notice of appeal thn Chinamen alleged that they had a good title to the land they were alleged to have trespassed upon, that their title was prior to that of Hore, and tha* the la'ter's title had been wrongly obtained. — Mr A. E. Inder, mining engineer, gave evidence as to the extent of the encroachment ; David M'Beth Calder as to the surveying of the ground and making inquiries as to prior occupanc}-; and Hore and others as to th-e position of their pegs. The appellants called witnesses in support of their allegations of prior occupancy. — His Honor dismissed- the appeal, with 10 guineas costs, witnesses' expenses, and disbursements, remarking that, although there was a conflict of testimony, the records of the court were in favour of respondent.

A bull strayed into Balclutha on Friday last, and enfcored the pre-mi-fs of Mrs Jane Bishop, shopkeeper, of South Clyde street. The animal made its way through the shop and sitting room, and finding further progress barred by the kitchen door entered a bedroom and jumped upon a bed. Some difficulty vra-s experienced in expelling the unwelcome bovine intruder, but beyond a broken vase and slight damage to a bedstead no damage .resulted from the animal's strange freak.
