THE VOYEUR.
In a golden boat, down a silver stream, On a couch of blood red roses, While Phcebus urges his fiery team,
The little blind god reposes. And to speed' that barque, io, the laggard breeze Trips featly as a fairy. There is royal sport in the errant court.
Was ever «< show so raree?
For a year md a day they float away On the deaicst, clearest river Of youth and joy ; and tlie- little blind boy Still draws on the magic quivei. For pass they the castle oi pass the town, The fort, or the prim pleaohedi alley, The 'briny seaport or the thymy down, Or echoing mountain valley,
By the dove 9of Venus, it's all the same—
A rnaik for the urchin's ariow. He boasts of a license for any game,
The sportsman without a man-row. It's never too early and never too late,
It's nevei protected season For the stile, the bower, or the garden gate. 'Tis a fact for rhyme, not reason.
For ever and aye the mischievous boy, A despot of despots haughty, By a random shaft or a. shot so icoy
Gives proof of his skill full naughty. Let me whispei low, let me whisper soft, My blue-eyed, cherry-lipped maiden! Beware of the beautiful golden boat
With the blood-red rosss laden
O fond youth, 'ware of the tender dioves ;
Avert thine ears from their cooing. Like mother, like son; and the Queen of
Will glory hi thine undoing. But the men and the maid? laugh loud and long, Eight gaily, con a more; For fhe boat is nigh, and the arrows fly! And this 13 the old, old story. — Boslut. Thames, N.Z., Maroh, 1904.
