LAND AND WATER
In reference to the Oxford and Cambridge- boat race on Saturday, it is stated that there will be a number of new men roving, including a New Zcalander (Gillies) and a Victoiian (Byice) in the Cambridge boat. Oxford appears to have a good heavy crow and a good stroLe ; but it i-5 said that Monier- Williams, a fine oarsman, may be uaable to row owing to illness. Cambridge has Lid difficulty in ssimna; upon a stroke, and has i lightweight in that important position. Wild wood-pigeon- have been very plentiful in and about BaVlutha during the past few days, and in some m-tancc-s have bemi seen perching on. tho tclrgraph wires in the main stroT. Soiio years sot, kaka^ were seen in numbers in the vicinity of the towns and farmhouses.
