OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
At a committee meeting, held on Monday, of the Otago Early Settlers' Association the following were present. Mr John Reid (in the chair), Meisrs Duke, Colder, Martin, Proudfoot (treasurer), Langlantte (secretary), and Dr Will. Sympathy was expressed for Mr and Mrs Peter Duncan that after one postponement of their garden party the second day fixed on should also prove unpropitiotis, although some visitors attended and were cordially welcomed and hospitably entertained ; still a considerable number were deterre-d from going by the thoiight of the damage a large assembly might do , the grounds not having had sufficient time to dry. The Secretary reported that the Balclutha picnic was fixed for Fnd-ty, the 15th January, and that the local residents had taken the matter up with gre.it earnestness and liberality. Members of the locrJ committee had visited the surrounding chsUicts, prd enthusiastic meetings weie hold, with promises of support and attendance. It was hoped a large contingent fiom Duiiedm would be present, otherwise the excursion, lates available on this occasion v»c"iM be eutouclcl o\ the next. So\oirl rev. members were enrolled.
