The present holder has only a capacity of 7000 f t; when the improvements aro completed the capacity of the works will be doubled. The new tank will be 52ft in diameter, and to allow of its working it wilt bo n-eces^ary to excavate 8500 yds of earth. The bricks (50,000) will ba made locally. A trout weighing 211b was taken from the Waitaki last week by Hr J. Smith, of Waimate. This is ono of tho heaviest fish, taken ov.c of the river, the record being » little n-.pr 22ib.
