The hour has come when woik is put away, The red sun hides his face down in tho west ; There comes a lull and blessed sense jf rest: Thus ends the heat and toil of the long daj'. All earth is robed m twilight soft and grey; Tho fledgelings aio asleep withir> ths nest; The daisies' eyes by soft white lids aia pressed — How sweet the air with scent >f new-mown Lay! And through tho deepening twilight, see jks gleini Of thono white irises beside tho stream — Like palo, sad ghosts their lonely watch they keep. Hard by a wakeful blackbiid softly sings, But soon is hu3hed ; for see l oil sable wings, Slow stealing from the East, comes Kight. with Sleep. — "M, G4G 4 Hayteb. December, 1303.
