WHY?
Why is it that you lie here pining, pining, Sighing for Death to come the livelong day? That in your eyes those tears are shining, shining ? " Why do you wish so much to go away? Oh, hear the sweet spring voices singing, singing, Drowning that voice that called through dark and rain ; Oh, look, ancD see the bright flowers springing, springing, And let your love of life grow strong again. Hear you the streamlet downward flowing, flowing, And bird-notes sounding sweetly through the air — The breezes o'er the hilltops blowing, blowing? Why should you wish to leave this world "o iair? At dawn the dewy earth lies glistening, glistening. The lark springs up with songs to greet the day ; • Why do you lie the night long listening, listening, For voices calling you ? Stay with me, stay ! And give me happiness by staying, staying; Listen no more for voices in the rain ; And every night shall find me praying, praying, That you shall not have stayed for me in vain. — M. G. Haytek.
