CLINTON BOWLING CLUB

The Clinton bowling green was opened for the season on Wednesday last under the most favourable conditions, the day being an ideal one for bowling. Invitations were sent to the neighbouring clubs, but as some of the greens were to be opened the same day they could not be accepted. However, there was a reccrd attendance of members, three rinks taking part in the afternoon's play. The ladies turned out m large numbers, and with their gay and varied summer apparel gave a bright and animated touch to the proceedings. The green was in splendid order, having had a top-dress-ing and general overhaul during the off season. Mr William Nelson (president), in a neat and appropriate tpeech, welcomed all and sundry, and trusted that a happy and pleasant afternoon would be spent. He also formally opened the new club house, which had been erected by the members last winter, paying a handsome and well-deserved tribute to those gentlemen who took the matter in hand and co energetically carried it through. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, and greatly enjoyed by all. A match was played between teams selected by the president and vice-president, and after a keenly-contested game the latter won by tho narrow margin of ono point. The scores were as follow — President. Vice-president. W. Nelson (c) .. IS W. Sheddan (s) .. 18 H. Garforth (s) . 19 J. Kerr (s) . .. 16 C. Mac Donald (s) 19 J. Garden (s) .. 21 Total ... 54 Total .. .. 55
