During a journey westward, in which the party pulled their sledges by relays up a glacier to a height of over 9000 ft, Lieutenant Armitage had a narrow escape. Falling through a crevice at the edge of a mountain, he slipped 28ft, but hia rope luckily brought him up, and Le dangled over a precipice 2500 ft high.
