TABLE TALK. Monday, August 17.

Mrs G. G. Russell had another of her delightful little luncheon parties on Thursday at her residence, "Glenfalloch," when there were about a dozen ladies present.

On Saturday afternoon eleven members of the Girls' Hockey Club played a very interesting match at their grounds, Andex--son's Bay, against nine of the University students, the latter winning by four goaib to two, and although the ground was in a very bad condition the play throughout was brisk. There was a large number of onlookers, for all of whom afternoon tea was provided by some members of the club, and) a very pleasant afternoon was spent.

Dr and Mrs Lindo Ferguson left last Tuesday by expiess for Chri&tchurcb. on ft short vi&ifc.

Miss Mendelson, -who has been visiting Dunedin for a few weeks, returned to Temuka on Tuesday by the express.

•Mi and Mrs E. B. Izaid left last Wednesday to spend a short time in Wellington.

Miss Sahnond has gone to pay some visits in Canterbury.

Miss K. Riddell (England) returned from a few weeks' visit to Christchurch and Timaru last Monday, and is stopping with her aunt, Mrs G. G. Eussell, at her residence, "Glenfalloch."

Miss Belle M'Lean left for Wellington i>y Saturday's express.

Miss Rita Burnett left last week to pay a visit to her sister, airs C. Dalgety, in Christchurch.

Mr and Airs Percy Sargood went to Christchurch by express on Tuesday for a few days.

Miss Isa Macdonald (Invercargill) arrived from the south on Wednesday, and is the guest of her sister, Mrs J. Law.

Mr and Mrs C. Napier Bell arrived from the north by the larawera on Thursday, and left for Melbourne on Monday.

The six members of the Dunedin Ladies' Golf Club who are to play a match against the Wellington Club this week are Mrs Allen, Mrs Butterworth, Miss Butterwortb, Mrs Fergus, Mrs Ogston, and Miss Scott, and they intend going north by to-morrow's express.

Mrs Win. Donaldson is at present residing in Dunedin, awaiting the arrival of lier sister (Mrs Meiklejohn) from Edinburgh, Scotland, who is expected to arrive by the lonic.

INVERCARGILL, August 17.

Last Friday week Mr and Mrs J. Harvey gave a most enjoyable dance at their residence, Spey street. The house, which is admirably adapted for entertain'ng, was thrown open for the occasion. Besides the large ball room, both a smoke room and a card room were provided for the enjoyment of the guests, whilst the long verandah made an excellent retreat between the dances. Some of those present besides Mr and Mrs Harvey and Miss Ruth Harvey were Mrs Robinson, Miss Robinson, Miss Scott (Dunedin), Mrs and Miss Sharp, Mr and Mrs Bush, Miss Macdonald, Miss I. Macdonald, Miss N. Thomson, Miss I. Thomson, Miss Rowley, Miss M Rowley, Mrs Wallis, Mr and Mrs F. Raymond, Miss Macgoun, Miss C. Macgoun, Mr Max Macgoun, Miss Wyinks, Mass Corbett, Mr P. Wright, Mr Earl, Mr and Mrs Hammond, Dr and Mrs Cantrell, Mr C. Tapley, Mr Moodie, Mr Fraser, Dr Jones, Mi Boot, Dr Sale, Mr Rowley, Mr Campbell, Mr Barnes, Mr M'Leod, etc. Last Tuesday morning, at St. John's Anglican Church, a very quiet wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. Archdeacon Stocker, the bride being Miss E. Rowley, daughter of the late Mr J. 3. Rowley, and the bridegroom Mr W. Handyside, of this town. Mr and Mrs Handyside left for the north by the express. In the evening Mrs and the Misses Rowley entertained a number of friends in honour of the occasion.

\nother quiet wedding took place on the afternoon of the same day, the bride being Misr Ida Piper, daughter of Mr C. Piper, and the bridegroom Mr S. Wright, of Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Wright left by the afternoon train for the north.

The last of the series of winter lectures ■was delivered during the week in the V.M.C.A. "Rooms by Mr G. M. Thomson, the subject of the lecture being "The Flowers and Plants of New Zealand." On each occasion there was a large and appreciative audience, and at the final lecture a vote of thanks to the lecturer was proposed by Afr McCarthy, and carried amid great applause. Last Friday evening a number of young people met and paid a surprise visit to Mr and the Misses Macgoun. The party, which was not altogether a surprise to their host and hostesses, received a cordial welcome, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, with cards and dancing. Some of those present were: Miss Queenie Bremner, Miss Stocker, Miss Robinson, Miss Scott (Dunedin), Miss Callender, Mi C. Callender, Miss M. Berndtson. Miss Moffett, Mr 8. Moffett. Dr Sale, Miss E. Hay, Mr Boot, Miss Wyinks, Miss Grace Tucker, Miss W. Tucker, Mr Totten, Miss Corbett, Mr Fleming. Mr Tapley, etc. On Thursday evening Mr and Mrs Sharp entertained a few friends at their residence.

Miss I. Thomson left last Wednesday on a visit to Dnnedin.

Mrs W. R. Cook has returned from a visit to Dunedin.

Mr J. G. Herdman has returned from a short visit to Christchurch.
