ASSOCIATION. SENIOR GRADE.
NOKTHEKN V. ROSIAX.
This match was played at Forbury on Saturday, in good weather auu on a ground in very good condition. Northern were at full strength, while Roslyn, although having a strong team, were without the services of iSmallbono in goal. An even game was .expected, bul il proved to be a very onesided one. Mr A. Sligo officiated as referee. Northern won the toss ..and defended xhe stand goal, taking advantage of a, diagonal wind. Waters starte<l play for Roslyn, but the opening pass was intercepted by Kearney. Northern forwards •were immediately around Roslyn's goal. Riley placed a neat pass at Morrison's feet, and that player beat Ward with a fast shot. Two minutes later Riley, from almost under the bar, lifted a fast centre from Morrison high over the crossbar. Following on this mistake Northern forwards hemmed in the Blues' defence, and thrica in rapid succession Riley wanned Ward's fingers with hard rfiots. Chadwick gained possession and put his team 2 up with a hard, clean drive. Brown tried hard to force matters "for Roslyn, but failed to negotiate the vigorous tackling of H. Clark. With splendid precision the White forwards showed admirable combination, and weak tackling by A. Dobton gave Siedeberg a nica opening, which «a-; accepted, and that player had no diffi-
culty in beating Ward. Shortly after, from splendid forward play, Riley sent »a hard 6hot bounding through- Ward's hands into the net. Roslyn were fairly nonplussed at all points of the game, and the strong defensive play of Northern's back division baffled the efforts of Rodyn forwards. Dashing play by Irvine on the right brought further disaster to the- Blues, a olever screw-kick from Irvine being accepted by Chadwick, ' who scored a fifth goal with a fine shot. On two occasions before tie interval Haynes was obliged to exert himeelf to clear two fine shots from Waters and Brown. Half-time arrived* with the score: Northern, 5 goals; Ro3lyn, nil. In the second spell play was practically a repetition of that in the first. A. Dobson came forward on the left wing, and muchinterest was caused by several interesting bouts between him and Harrison. Northern's plucky young full back was more than able for Dobson, and time and again beat the Rcelyn crack. All over Northern were showing great form, and Morrison scored a sixth, and Siedeberg immediately after scored a seventh goal. Ward gave place to Wilkinson in goal, and soon mad© his presence felt in the half back line. Ably backed up by strong kicking on Ward's part, Waters, Ussher, and Brown made considerable progress, but failed to get through the strong defence of Northern. At midfield Mbrrieon gained possession, and the smartast play of .the match followed. Morrison, gay© to Chadwick, and in turn all the White forwards passed, and ropassed, finishing with Irvine scoring a pretty goal. ICear the close a somewhat similar combined effort culminated in Northern scoring, Irvine sending a fast shot across to Riley, who eleeked the ninth goal past Wilkinson. Time was •■■—>- -U-i 3 with. Northern around Roslyn's goal, and a very one-sidel game ended: iNorthern ... 9 goals. Roslyn Ni!.

The Sawyers' Bay met and defeated Mornington at Sawyers' Bay on Saturday, after a hard and exciting contest, by 2 to 1. Beth teams had evidently made un their mind to win, and in consequence the game in -the second spell was very lively. There was, however, far too much talking, and captains of toams i would be taking a step in the right direction by trying to prevent it. Mr H. Angus officiated as referee. Northern and Roslyn met on the Asylum Ground on Saturday before an interested crowd of spectatora, owing to the fact that the result decided the premiership. The ground being in a very bad state good play was out of the question. After % an interesting . game the Northern were returned winners by 4 goals to 1. Goals were secured by Pcnnin, Uttley, Timlin, and Scott for the winners, and by Angell for tha losers.
