LONDON, July 7. The fifth series of colonial wool sales will be limited to 140,000 bales, and the iixth series will be unlimited. The wool sales opened brisk, prices being from !par to 7% per cent, advance on the closing sales of the last series. July 9. At the wool sales faulty sorts were 5 per cent, below May sales. Fine crossbreds are a halfpenny dearer than last series. Other classes are very firm at Tuesday's rates. ' Th& New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) has received the following cablegram from their London offioe : — "Wool sales opened on 7th inst. Competition keen ; attendance very good. Since close -of last sales prices are about par to 5 per cent, higher "for fine greasy crossbred, greasy crossbred lambs, and fine scoured croesbred, whilst for medium and coarse greasy crossbred prioe3 are about 74 to 10 per oent. higher, merino being about the same as at the close of last eales." The National Mortgage and Agency Com- ' pany has received the following cable from their London offioe, dated 7th inst.: — " Wool eales opened at an average advance «f 7| per oeiK. medium and coarse crossbreds, and firm for finest descriptions crossbreds; also firm for mei'ino all deaor^ption»." Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) roporfc having received the following cable from their head office, dated London, 7th July: — " Wool sales opened ; large attendance of buyers ; competition animated ; indifferent selection. Price* on a par with closing rates of last series for all descriptions, except I greasy medium and coarse crossbred wools, which are higher than closing rates of last serie3 by 7£ ppr cent." The Department of Induetries and Commerce received the following cable message from the Agent-general, dated Bth inst. : — "At the opening of the wool sales competition was very animated. Compared with closing rates of last aeries, greasy, coarse, and medium crossbreds are Id dearer, and merinos and fine crossbreds at about par. ' There are 89,000 bales of New Zealand wool available."
