TEMPER A NCE DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER.

That Otago and Southland is active in the oauso of temperance; is instanced by the number of delegates who are going up to Wellington to join the deputation from all parts of the colony which will wait on. the Premier on Wednesday afternoon to press the claims of the Temperance party. On Saturday kst Messrs Thomas Ay son <of Edenckle) and John Mac Gibbon (of Gore) left by the express en route for Wellington ; yesterday Messrs Frauk Graham and Jonathan Rhodes went north; and on Monday Messrs A. C Broad J. Neil), T. A. Scott, D. Why to, also Mrs J. A. D. Adams and Mas? Adame, left by the express for the noith. These, together with Mr A. S. Adams (who is at present in Wellington), will represent Dimedin on the deputation. Messrs Muiv and N. A. Paterson, at Palmerston South, will represent the Waikouaiti, and Mr Gibb the Port Chalmers electorates.' The names oi the Oam&ru delegates have not come to hand, but we understand that a 6trong representation will be cent forward from that quarter. The representatives, from Tuapeka. and Invercargill electorates are at present in Wellington. Tho deputation, which will consist of representatives from all over New Zealand, will also decide upon a scheme of operations for the whole colony, which will have the effect of consolidating the temperance forces throughout New Zealand. During tho next two and a-haJf years the No-license campaign will be carried on vigorously, and the Temperance party promises an exciting time at the next general election.

A recent concert at Kaiapoi for the benefit of Mrs Higgin?, who had suddenly becomo blind, realised £61 net. At an inquiry into a fire which took place recently at Waitekauri, Auckland, a verdict was returned to the effect that the oauso of the fire was purely accidental, but the jury added a rider statin/ that they regretted ih&t some .aseistauoo towards the maintenance of the fire brigade plant, which was very defective, was not given by the local bodies and insurance companies, who were in receipt of very high insurance rates in the distriot
