NAPIER PARK WINTER MEETING.

The Napier Park Racing Club concluded ita winter meeting to-day. Tho weather waa fine, and. there was An unusuallj large atten^-
ance for a winter meeting. The racing was much better than on the first day. The sum of £5006 was invested on the totalisators, making a total of £9017 for the two days, a decrease of £48 on last year's total. The- following are the results: — Second Hack Hurdles, of 50sovs. One mile and a-half.— Tradewind, 11.11 (Witt), 1; Comfort, 11.2, 2; Inspan, 9.4, 3. Also started: Rags 11.13, Evening 10.6, Waireka 9.0, Rkyle 9.0. Won easijy. Tune, 2min 50 l-ssec Dividends, £3 63 and 14s.
NAPIER STEEPLECHASE, Of 250sovs. Three miles.
126 Mt P. Wotton's b g Jack o' Lantern*, by Wonderland— lncense, 11.4 (Hall) 1 141— Mr J. Jeffs's Pipi, 10.9 (Carr) .. ..2 112— Mr W. O'Sullivan's Straybird, 9.13 (Morrigan) 3 Also started: 208 The Gryphon. 10.9 and Cronje 10.8 (bracketed). The three placed horses kept in close company all the way, Jack o' Lantern and Straybird alternately leading; but the latter fell away before the straight was reached, and Jack o' Lantern won by three lengths. Tbe Gryphon fell. Time, Gniui 40 4-ssec. Dividend, £4 3a.
Winter Oats Handicap, of 60sova. One mile. —Menura, 10.7 (Davis). 1; Waimoe, 10.11, 2; Gold Dust, 9.13, 3. Also started: BaJJyneety 10.3, la 10.1, Hardwork 10.0, Lady's Link 9.7, Mongonui 9.0, Minerve 9.0, Rapids 9.0, Pantaloon 9.0. Won by nearly two lengths.- Time, lmm 47 4-ssec. Dividends, £3 7s and £1 12s.
Hunters' Handicap Hurdles, of 60sovs. One mile and three-quarters.— Modesty, 11.9 (H. Marshall), 1; Hinewai, 13.7, 2; Braga, 12.7, 3. A leo started : Great Shot 13.9, Benedictine 12.2, Hokowhitu 11.18, The Gun 11.0, Gun Metal 11.0. Modesty led all the way, and won easily. Time, 3mm 30 3-osec. Dividends, £5 8b and £14.
Second Hurdles, of lOOsovs. One mile and a-half.— Rags, 10.3, (Walls), 1; Smithy, 9.10, 2; Mourner, 11.4, 3. Also started: Eclair 11.0. Won by 'two lengths. Time, 3min 25sec. Dividend, £3 139. Farewell Steeplechase, of SOsovs. Two miles and a-quarter.— The Gryphon, 11.6 (Watt), 1; Straybird, 10.13, 2; Counterbine, 9.7, 3. Also started: Umslopogaas 9.13, Eucharis 9.13, Bushwhacker 9.7. Umslopogaas fell when leading, and his jockey (Hutchinson) was bad'y smashed by the horse- falling on him. He waa taken to the hospital, and recovered consciousness, and is now doing well. He has a collarbone and ana trok&n. The Gryphon was left with the lead when Umslopogaas Cu.me down, and, stalling off Straybwd's challenge, won by two lengths. Time, 4min 54sec. Dividends, £2 15s and 19s.
Newstead Hack Handicap, of 50sovs. Seven furlongs.— Creusot 11.10 (Moore), 1; Optimist, 11.3, 2; Andree, 9.13, 3. Also started: Defoa 11.9, Ontario 10.6, Quira 9.7, First Foot 9.0, Pawn 9.0, Nukumaratia 9.0, Nadador 9.0. A rattling finish between Creusot and Optimist ended in a short neck victory for the former. Time, lmin 33sec. Divid-ends, £3 3s and 15s.
